About Leslie
I
love to draw animals—anything with fur or feathers, paws or claws,
hooves, horns, tails. I’ve been drawing animals since I could first
wield a crayon. I switched to pen and ink in 1990 and started drawing
commissioned PenPets portraits in 2000. In 2006 I retired from 25 years
of teaching English to focus on my art.
I draw PenPets portraits from photographs, paying close attention to
detail, so that each creature is instantly recognizable. I strive to
capture not only the physical likeness of my subjects, but their hearts
and souls as well. I hope that the spirit of each animal that I draw
lives on long after the beloved pet is gone.
I
live on the coast of Maine with my husband and helpmate, Tom, and my
muse, Kinsey, a “designer” dog I rescued from the Bird Bazaar in
Istanbul (Kinsey’s story). We live in a house that we built with our own
hands, surrounded by flower and vegetable gardens, rimmed by thick
forests of spruce, hemlock, and pine, and fronted by Penobscot Bay. As
you can see, we like messing around in boats. It’s too cold to swim in
Maine waters!
Thank you for visiting my website. Please look at my galleries of dogs,
cats, and farm animals. Read testimonials from my clients. Then find out
how to order your own PenPets portrait. I hope to hear from you soon!
